About Brandon Giles

Head Coach Brandon Giles enters his second season at Polk State.

He follows in the footsteps of his father, Josh Giles, who coached Polk State basketball from 1987 to 1999.

Giles’ love for basketball began as a young boy in a basketball family. He grew up playing in youth leagues in Auburndale and Winter Haven, Fla., where he developed diverse relationships that would continue into his adulthood.

After a successful career in youth leagues, Giles took his talents to the state circuit, where he was a part of the original AAU power house Magic Hoops.

Although there were struggles along the way, he began to blossom into a talented player with high expectations. Realizing his potential while attending All Saints ‘Academy and Auburndale High School, he began to work toward earning a scholarship to play college basketball.

In addition, Giles competed on a national travel ball circuit during the summer months in front of hundreds of college coaches. His father coached college basketball for 25 years, so he understood the importance of what it took to receive a scholarship at any level.

Giles graduated from Auburndale High School, where he was a starter for three years and was named the 2006 Polk County Player of the Year. He then received a basketball scholarship at Western Carolina University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree with a minor in business administration.

At Western Carolina, Giles was a three-time First Team All-Southern Conference player. Under the leadership of Head Coach Larry Hunter, Giles learned what it meant to be committed to excellence as well as conquering adversity.

“This was something our head coach instilled in us day in and day out,” says Giles. “I’ve been able to carry it with me ever since, and it’s been of great benefit.”

After college, Giles had the opportunity to play professional basketball in Germany.

Following a short pro career, he returned to his hometown of Auburndale, where he began working with his mother on the rebranding of the Josh Giles Foundation, a nonprofit organization named in honor of his father.

Giles now serves as the executive director of the foundation, which aims to maintain Josh Giles’ vision and continue his work by helping student-athletes enrich their lives through education and activities that showcase their talents and advance their dreams.

At the same time, Giles started to pursue an interest in coaching. He has dedicated his career to empowering and enriching the lives of others -- with Auburndale High School boy’s basketball, Florida Elite Basketball, and Warner University men’s basketball.

As the founder of Brandon Giles Consulting, he set out with a goal to grow the company into one of the nation’s leading sports consulting firms. He holds the core values of being sincere and passionate in every approach toward his clients. In addition to the hundreds of athletes on whom Giles has had an impact, his businesses have established relationships across five continents and with world-renowned brands like Adidas, The Jordan Brand, and Li-Ning.

Giles believes in what he calls “Faith. Focus. Finish.” With the mindset of having faith, followed by focusing on the essentials, any job can be finished at a high level.
